Lolfa

We designed Lolfa as a contemporary café and bar in the heart of Carmarthen, with the aim of celebrating Welsh culture through a modern, welcoming interior.

The concept draws on the warmth and character of a traditional Welsh lolfa — a place to gather, relax and connect — reinterpreting this familiar sense of home within a contemporary hospitality setting. We created a rich, earthy palette using natural materials, tactile textures and warm lighting to establish an intimate atmosphere that transitions effortlessly from daytime café to evening bar.

We wanted the Welsh influence to feel authentic and understated, introducing it through the material palette, locally inspired details, branding, signage and carefully considered graphic elements. We designed bespoke joinery, commissioned distinctive furniture and layered the lighting to add character and create a strong visual identity, while carefully planning the layout to encourage both casual coffee stops and longer evenings spent socialising.

The result is a distinctive café bar rooted in its Welsh surroundings — contemporary, characterful and welcoming, with a strong sense of community at its heart.
